Read MoreThe short answer is yes. But it’s a lot harder than it was say 5 years ago. There are far more affiliates, but the thing that makes it difficult is the way affiliate marketers are now perceived. The bad rep is not all unjustified (many people don’t go about it right!) but on the whole the treatment is poor. Especially from advertising networks and social media.

Take Google for instance, it’s almost impossible to turn a profit on their Adwords program. When it’s not high costs per click, it’s unbelievable quality score bureaucracy. And the emerging advertising platforms are going the way of google too. In recent months Facebook has started to crack down on affiliate marketers.

Which brings me to the point of the tremendous hypocrisy in all of this. I mean when you think about it, Google and Facebook owe their tremendous wealth to not only the user base, but the potential advertising revenue that can be generated from the user base. I can bet if facebook user base wasn’t attractive to advertisers, the platform wouldn’t be as valuable. Yet both facebook and google treat advertisers with scorn – for the most part.

If you are just getting started with affiliate marketing, there is still money to be made. Just tread carefully…

I would write more but I have so much to do. If you agree with any of the random pourings above, why not join the conversation below by commenting. I would love to hear from you.
